The New York City Campaign Finance Board is a nonpartisan, independent city agency that enhances the role of New York City residents in elections. We are dedicated to making our local democracy more open, transparent, and equitable.  They aim to eliminate barriers to participation by providing access to the information and resources New Yorkers need to vote or run for office and reduce the corrupting influence of money in politics by enhancing the impact of New Yorkers’ small-dollar contributions.  

Prospective candidates can expect to work with a staff and leadership team that are mission driven and committed to continuous improvement for the staff and the public.  All jobs are in New York, NY and are a hybrid schedule.

ABOUT THE UNIT/DEPARTMENT

The Legal unit is responsible for enforcing the city’s campaign finance laws; drafting rulemakings, legislation, and advisory opinions; representing the agency in litigation; and providing in-house legal counsel.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The associate counsel reports to the general counsel and works with a team of five attorneys and a paralegal.

Responsibilities include:

• Prosecuting enforcement actions against campaigns and independent spenders;
• Representing the agency in administrative hearings, collection actions, and Article 78 proceedings;
• Drafting and analyzing rules, legislation, and advisory opinions;
• Conducting research and drafting memoranda in response to legal inquiries; and
• Providing legal counsel to other units, including review of Candidate Handbook and Voter Guide.
