COMMERCIAL AND REAL ESTATE LITIGATION DIVISION
The Commercial & Real Estate Litigation Division of the New York City Law Department seeks an experienced litigator to represent the City and related entities in commercial litigation matters. The position is for an attorney to handle the Division's contract cases, including delay damages and other claims under multimillion-dollar construction contracts with private companies to build or repair the City's infrastructure, contracts for critically needed goods and services, and procurement process disputes. The position will also involve counseling City agencies regarding procurement issues, the contractual ADR process, and other matters. The Division litigates principally in state courts and before administrative tribunals, such as the Contract Dispute Resolution Board, though federal court experience is a plus.
Applicants must be graduates of ABA accredited law schools and have at least three years of legal experience. Applicants must be admitted and in good standing in New York State. Candidates must possess strong legal writing and analytical skills, as well as excellent judgment and interpersonal skills.

Family Court Division – Entry Level Attorney
The New York City Law Department is accepting applications from recent law school graduates for the position of Assistant Corporation Counsel (ACC) in the Family Court Division’s Juvenile Delinquency Unit. The Juvenile Delinquency Unit serves as the Presentment Agency in juvenile delinquency proceedings before the Family Court. Juvenile delinquency matters currently involve youth under 18 who have been arrested for conduct that would constitute a crime if they were adults. The goal of these proceedings is to address the needs and best interest of the youth and to ensure the safety of the community.
Attorneys in the Family Court Division’s Juvenile Delinquency Unit carry a caseload and are responsible for all aspects of the practice. This includes community outreach and engagement, case investigation, motion practice, conducting extensive discovery, and courtroom litigation including pre-trial hearings, trials and dispositional hearings. The ACC’s borough assignment will include cross-designation as a Special Assistant District Attorney where they will draft cases and appear in the Youth Part of the Supreme Court.
During the course of the ACC’s initial year, they will be assigned to a four-month rotation in evening court where they will work weekday evenings. These assignments include a monetary stipend above the base salary and a car service home each night. ACCs will interview police officers and witnesses to screen new arrests and prepare and conduct pre-petition detention hearings, which determine if a juvenile is kept in custody of the Department of Youth and Family Justice pending the fact-finding hearing.
Upon completion of the evening rotation the ACC will be required to join the entire legal staff in working a small portion of weekend evening hours on a rotating basis throughout the year.
All candidates must be either: (1) Graduates of an ABA-approved law school who are either admitted to practice in New York State or have their application for admission pending with the New York State Bar, or (2) have graduated in 2022 and have passed the MPRE, NYLE and UBE during law school or be scheduled to take the first available MPRE, NYLE and UBE after law school graduation.

LITIGATION SUPPORT DIVISION
The New York City Law Department is seeking a Discovery Management Attorney who will be assigned to work at 100 Church Street to assist in the discovery sought from other City agencies by the New York City Law Department. The Law Department is one of the largest law offices in New York City and one of the largest public law offices in the country. The Department's lawyers handle more than 80,000 cases and transactions each year. The Department's attorneys represent the City on a vast array of civil litigation and in the criminal prosecution of juveniles. The Department also counsels the Mayor, elected officials, the City and all its agencies. The Discovery Management Attorney interacts with other Assistant Corporation Counsels, paralegals, and staff to assist with document production for the Agency. They also assist in the supervision of staff conducting paper and electronic discovery for document production. The Discovery Management Attorney will also become familiar with the IT systems and management of other agencies in order to assist with the collection of electronically stored information. The Discovery Management Attorney may be assigned to work on-site at the assigned agency , but that is subject to change based on space availability. The position may require travel to other agency locations to information map.
Preferred Skills: J.D. from an ABA accredited law school and admitted to practice in New York State. At least three years of litigation and discovery experience. Strong organizational and writing skills. Strong communication skills including the ability to interact with and develop collaborative relationships with both Law Department and Agency personnel.
