The Civil Division of the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York
seeks high caliber Assistant U.S. Attorneys (AUSAs) to advance its mission and welcomes
applications from candidates whose backgrounds reflect the rich diversity of the district and the nation. The Office serves more than eight million people in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, and in Nassau and Suffolk counties on Long Island.

AUSAs in the Civil Division represent the interests of the United States in a host of affirmative and defensive civil actions in the United States District and Bankruptcy Courts, as well as in the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. The Civil Division has exceptionally strong affirmative, defensive, programmatic, and appellate practices. AUSAs in the Civil Division handle, from inception through appeal, all aspects of civil litigation, including engaging in motion practice, preparing and answering discovery, negotiating settlements, trying cases, drafting appellate briefs, and arguing cases before judges. Candidates must be active members of the bar and have at least 3 years post-J.D. legal experience. U.S. citizenship is required. Candidates should also possess superior oral and written advocacy skills as well as strong interpersonal skills. Candidates should exhibit sound judgment, be able to function with minimal guidance in a highly demanding environment, and possess a sincere and demonstrated commitment to justice and public service. In-court litigation experience and a background in conducting investigations are preferred.

The range of pay for an AUSA in this district is between $76,961.00 and $176,200.00 (including locality pay); the salaries for AUSAs are determined by the years of professional experience.
