The Criminal Division of the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York seeks high caliber Assistant U.S. Attorneys (AUSAs) to advance its mission and welcomes applications from candidates whose backgrounds reflect the rich diversity of the district and the nation. The Office serves more than eight million people in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, and in Nassau and Suffolk counties on Long Island.

AUSAs in the Criminal Division are responsible for the investigation and prosecution of some of the most significant criminal matters in the country, including terrorism, cybercrime, public corruption, organized crime, civil rights, business and securities fraud, international narcotics trafficking, violent crime, and human trafficking. AUSAs handle criminal cases from the initial investigative stage through appeal, which includes working with federal agents, investigators, and local police to plan strategy, presenting cases to the grand jury, negotiating with defense counsel, handling all court appearances and motion practice, trying cases before the jury, and briefing and arguing appeals to the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

Candidates must be active members of the bar and have at least 3 years post-J.D. legal experience. U.S. citizenship is required. Candidates should also possess superior oral and written advocacy skills as well as strong interpersonal skills. Candidates should exhibit sound judgment, be able to function with minimal guidance in a highly demanding environment, and possess a sincere and demonstrated commitment to justice and public service. In-court litigation experience and a. background in conducting investigations are preferred.

The range of pay for an AUSA in this district is between $76,961.00 and $176,200.00 (including locality pay); the salaries for AUSAs are determined by the years of professional experience.
