Pro Bono Opportunities to Assist Afghan Refugees The New York-New Jersey area is in the process of welcoming a high number of Afghan refugees and both legal and other assistance are needed. As a community of Muslim lawyers, law students, and legal professionals, we wanted to provide everyone here with relevant volunteer opportunities to ensure that our new neighbors can be welcomed and helped by friendly face: - Pangea, Centro Legal de la Raza, and the Afghan Diaspora for Equality & Progress: these groups are coordinating a project to pair volunteer legal workers with Afghans seeking humanitarian parole into the United States. They are seeking volunteers to assist on a pro bono basis. If you are interested in volunteering, please fill out this google form, and attach a signed confidentiality agreement and they will pair you with a family. Alternatively, you may volunteer to translate here.
- Volunteers Needed to Help with Afghan Immigration Cases: pro bono attorneys are needed to help Afghans with their SIV, P-2, and humanitarian parole cases. Volunteers are needed who can provide general guidance, are willing to look over forms to be submitted to USCIS but not represent applicants, and those willing to represent Afghan applicants on a pro bono basis. If you are interested please reach out to LCEmails@acslaw.org.
